Like many people my age, social media is one of my favorite things. I am a social media fanatic. I am constantly online checking my social media and looking for new ways to improve my profiles and posts. One of my absolute favorite social media is Instagram. Long gone are the days when I would post a mirror selfie with a pre-designed Instagram filter plus the matching border; topped off with a montage of 20 useless hashtags. I would like to think my Insta’ has come a long way since then. These days, I am much more proud of my Instagram posts and I receive numerous questions about my photos/videos and what apps I use to create them. So if you are as big of a social media fanatic as I am, check out my five go-to apps I use to improve my Instagram posts.
VSCO Cam: This app is my #1 favorite app on my iPhone! I never post a photo without opening it in this app first. The VSCO Cam app offers photo filters and strengthening sliders for everything from saturation to warmth and are above and beyond Instagram’s Moon and Nashville. You can also purchase collections of filters if you are just not feeling the pre-downloaded ones. These filters are professional and artistic instead of amateurish and cheesy. Along with being all around awesome, this app is recommended by professionals. I would definitely download this app if you are as serious as I am about your photos looking great no matter where you are posting them.
InstaSize: Before Instagram updated their settings, you could only post boring square photos. This app enabled me to post photos in whatever shape and size I wanted. With Instagram’s new update installed I have slowly integrated into using Instagram’s full photo settings, but that hasn’t stopped me from using this app. Aside from resizing, this app is great for creating collages, making adjustments to your photos, cropping, and adding text, stickers, overlays and more. I prefer this app over Instagram’s official app Layout because of the wide variety of options. I definitely recommend this app.
Hyperlapse: You probably will not use this app very often; I know I don’t. However, this app is great for filming scenes that change over time. For example, if you are filming sunrises, sunsets, crowds of people, ocean waves, or just anything moving this app will condense your video into the perfect 15-second Instagram time limit as it was created by Instagram. I personally love viewing time-lapsed videos and this app creates them perfectly.
Boomerang: Another great app created by Instagram, this app allows you to take a burst of 10 photos from your camera and then turns the burst into one smooth video that loops back and forth in a stop motion video effect. Boomerang creates a creative visual when you’re capturing movement and adds a little something extra to what would otherwise be a boring burst of 10 photos or an unappealing video.
Instagram: The Instagram app itself has many useful photo editing options; excluding the filters. I never post a photo onto Instagram without editing my photo’s sharpness and clarity in the Instagram app. But the sharpness tool is not the app’s only useful tool. The Instagram app offers other adjustment tools such as brightness, contrast, warmth, saturation, highlights, shadows, and more. All of these adjustment tools are great for making your photos more appealing.
