It’s officially FALL and a new month has begun which means it’s time for another Monthly Favorites article! I’ve combined the months of August and September into this article due to my hectic schedule and readjustment to college life. This article is going to feature my end of summer/transitioning into the fall favorites….and least favorites. Thankfully, however, the past two months were full of great purchases so there are very few products in The Worst section compared to The Best. I tried out products such as brow powders, lip paints, and an amazing makeup brush cleaner that will make your makeup brushes look good as new. Trust me you need some of these items in your life and if you’re searching for some great new products to try out or have been wanting to read a review on these specific items featured before you make a purchase, this is just the blog post for you! With that being said, check out my favorite and least favorite products from August and September and what I had to say about them:
I purchased this mascara to use on my lower lashes to give my eyes a softer look. Applying brown mascara to your lower lashes gives your eye makeup a softer look due to the brown shade being less harsh and bold than a black shade of mascara. I apply my black L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara to my upper lashes for a dramatic and voluminous effect, and then apply this brown mascara to my lower lashes for that softer look. This mascara applies easily, does not clump, and gives my lower lashes the soft yet voluminous look I’m looking for.

2. Sun Bum SPF 30 Coconut Lip Balm:
This lip balm was a lifesaver during those scorching hot end of summer days. It’s always important to make sunscreen a palettes part of your beauty routine. Even our lips need protection. I pair this lip balm with my forever favorite Vaseline Lip Therapy in Rosy Lips. It gives my lips the sun protection they need from those harsh sun rays while still keeping them moisturized. The coconut scent is subtle and not overwhelming.

3. Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Namaste:
I absolutely love this lip paint, I wear it daily. I’d been searching for the perfect matte light pink lip color and I was finally able to find it when I found this product. I purchased this randomly while wandering the isles of my local Ulta and fell in love. The color pairs great with my fair skin tone and dark eyes. It applies easily, smells great, and stays in place for most of the day. I rarely have to reapply this lip paint.

4. Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in WCW:
Just like my other lip paint, I’m in love with this one also. However, I don’t wear this color daily due to the dark hue. I love to wear this color when going out with my friends or going to a concert. The dark plum color pairs perfectly with my nighttime makeup routine. Unlike the other lip paint, this lip paint is a gloss instead of a matte. I’m usually more of a matte lip person, especially now that the season has changed to fall, but this lip paint works well for me.

5. IT Cosmetics Brush Bath Purifying Brush Cleaner:
This product was recommended to me by my roommate, who has asked diligently for a shoutout knowing I’d review it: Hi Raine. I normally wash my brushes using an antibacterial soap and water technique, but I’m a very impatient person and hated waiting for the water to dry out from the bristles of my makeup brushes and decided to give the Brush Bath a try. For this technique, I use two paper towels folded together, spray a few pumps of Brush Bath onto the paper towels, and move my makeup brush in a circular and then back and forth motion palettes. The makeup just melts right off of my brushes. All of the built up makeup and bacteria leave my brush almost immediately. Now, this technique takes a little more time and patience than my other technique but my brushes have never been cleaner or softer.

6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brown:
The Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Sale recently ended and I was able to score this little beauty. Anyone who knows me knows I love filling in my brows and this brow powder is perfect for it. The powder comes in two shades, one dark brown and one a lighter, more almond shade. I use the dark brown for the main base of my brow and the lighter shade of brown for the inner part of my brows to fade them out into the darker brown shade. The powder applies easily and with a little help from my setting spray stays in place for hours on end.

7. Cover FX Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment:
With school comes stress and with college and adulthood comes severe stress and with severe stress comes the dreaded….acne. I am not one for breakouts as I’ve stated previously but from time to time my daily life gets inconvenienced by a pimple. But, when this does happens I pull out this mattifying primer with anti-acne treatment and it mattifies my skin, while also healing my acne, to cover up those pesky red bumps. So no matter how stressed I am, I’m still able to help my skin appear acne free.

8. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Honey Bear:
I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect medium shade of lipstick. A shade that isn’t too dark or too matte and one that isn’t too light and too shimmery. This lipstick is the perfect blend of light and dark, as well as matte and gloss. It’s the perfect daytime color. I love wearing this lipstick to daytime events or casual dinner parties. It gives my lips a subtle pop of color without being too much of a statement lip.

9. NYX Cream Highlight and Contour Palette:
I normally only use powder highlight and contour palettes to my skin type, but I figured I’d branch out and try something new. Branching out is always good; especially when it comes to makeup. You never know what you’ll end up loving and using long-term. However, you’ll also find out what you really dislike and never want to purchase again. This was the case for this particular product. The creamy texture of the makeup did not glide well across my face, making it difficult to apply which lengthened my “getting ready” time which is never good. The cream was also too thick, making it difficult for my brush to pick it up. Overall, this isn’t a purchase I will be making again.
10. Kat Von D Shade + Light Blush in Sid & Nancy:
To be completely honest, the only issue I had with this product was the shade. The shade was way too light for my skin tone and washed me out. I really enjoyed the product itself. The powder was easy to apply, swept across my face effortlessly. I also loved the packaging. Overall, this really doesn’t belong in The Worst category I just need to swatch my makeup more often.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about all of my favorite and least favorite product purchases from the months of August and September. I certainly enjoyed trying them out and reviewing them for all of you.
