Ever since I was young, my hair has had a mind of its own. My hair has always decided what length, color, style, and the way it wanted to be parted. I have naturally straight, fine, and dry hair. It grows super fast and is almost always long. Over the years, I’ve had to search tirelessly to find what products work for me and my hair and what products don’t. It hasn’t always been a pleasant journey. There may or may not have been a few tears, but I’ve definitely found some gems along the way. Upon receiving questions about my hair and the products I put into it, I decided to create a new segment with a new post ALL about my daily beauty habits, tricks, and hacks. So, if you’re interested in finding out what work goes into my hair on a daily basis to keep it healthy and fresh, keep reading.
Step 1: Shampoo + Conditioner
First things first, shampoo and conditioner! I currently use the Nexxus Hydra Light Weightless Moisture Rebalancing Shampoo and Restoring Conditioner. After lathering in my shampoo and rinsing it out thoroughly, I apply conditioner all over my head, being extra generous to the ends of my hair. I then let the conditioner sit for a few minutes. I always let my conditioner sit because it adds extra moisture and replenishment to my hair. After letting the conditioner sit, I wash it out almost completely. I always leave a little extra in my hair to prevent it from drying out later on.
Step 2: Post-Shower
After stepping out of the shower and towel drying my hair, I add in the Nexxus Promend Split End Binding Leave In Creme to the ends of my hair. This prevents my hair from getting those pesky split ends. After I’ve thoroughly added the end mender to the ends of my hair, I go in with the Not Your Mothers Way to Grow Leave In Conditioner. This product is super cheap but also works really, really well. My hair tangles easily, and this product prevents it from tangling into impossible knots. Once that is lathered in, I part my hair and leave it to air dry.
Step 3: Pre-Styling
I don’t normally prefer to heat style my hair, hence why I air dry my hair after showering. I don’t like the damage that heat causes hair, and I don’t like the look of overly heat-styled hair. However, when I do heat style my hair, I always make sure it is thoroughly protected. Before heat styling, I always spray the Toni & Guy Prep Heat Protection Mist all throughout my hair. I love this heat protectant because it smells great, leaves my hair feeling softer, and never fails to protect my hair from harmful heat.
Step 4: Styling It Out
When heat styling my hair for an everyday look, I either grab my CHI 1″ Ceramic Straightener or my Hot Tools 1″ Curling Iron. I have naturally straight hair; however, I always tend to get some unruly pieces here and there so I’ll go in with my CHI straightener to clean them up. But, if I want natural-looking beachy waves I will use my Hot Tools curling iron and style it out. Picking the perfect styling tool for me was difficult. It took years of testing out different products to find the right fit for me to be able to style my hair at the lowest temperature with the fewest passes. Finding the perfect straightener was especially difficult. If you’re looking for help selecting the best straightener for your hair, head on over to my friends at Reviews.com and read their amazing article about finding the perfect low-heat straightener for your hair. Trust me, your hair will thank you.
